Never Say Never 2.0

So I'm slow. I just watched Justin Bieber's Never Say Never and I have to say ready?

I AM A FAN!!!!

Sure I knew him some time ago mainly because I'm a fan of Selena Gomez, and I remember years ago people were telling me about this "faggot who sings like a girl" (I think that's mean) and that they couldn't understand what all the hype was about.

Okay, I have to say a few things now. I'm a fan now, and it's not just because:

1. He's cute.
2. He has awesome flickable hair which was auctioned off.
3. He has beautiful eyes.
4. This kid can actually sing.
5. He's really talented!!!

Okay maybe all of the above.

I mean, look at this video!!!!

So cute I could die....ARGH!!!!

And at 14 years old, he wrote this song...Where Are You Now. Music and lyrics all his.

He was a child that has got what it takes, and someone discovered him. I'm sure he's very pleasant to work with, or he wouldn't sustain till today.

I hope he keep doing what he does, better. =D

After watching him I have a renewed sense of faith towards my dreams. Suddenly having a great body and carving out a career for myself in Taiwan doesn't seem such an impossible task.

Work it girl!

Review: Freckle Removal with Laser

If there is one skin problem I have, it has to be pigmentation. Or more commonly known as freckles. I love the outdoors (minus the heat), I love the beach, but I do not, I emphasize, I DO NOT like the pigmentation that develops after a day at the beach.

I've always had them, since I was a kid. Other kids get tanned. I get tanned unevenly, with freckles. After I became an adult, I still get tanned unevenly, with freckles. It's just the way my skin reacts to UV and sunlight. And I've learnt to live with them, and deal with them every couple of years with external treatments.

Yup, I mentioned I used to go for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments which remove the freckles. But the truth is, they hurt like a bitch (imagine someone snapping a rubber band against your face repeatedly for an hour), and most therapists do not touch the area around my eyes as it is supposedly dangerous.

So while the rest of my face remains clear especially after my IPL treatments, the areas around my eyes just get more and more heavily pigmented.

Whoa horror film screenshot.

You see, the way these treatments work is by zapping the spots which have developed so they surface onto the outermost layer of the skin - the epidermal layer. After which, these spots dry up and fall off. It's a little like forcing the skin to grow new cells and push the old ones out.

This means that the pigmentation, once removed/fallen off, will not come back. What you might hear of people saying that the spots will come back is actually a result of new dark spots developing. My freckles always "come back", but those are new ones which would develop even if I had not gone for any treatment anyway.

Thanks to Dr Zhang Yijun from The Face Aesthetic Clinic who wants to help me take care of my face (Cute hor? Taken already, you guys don't try anything funny ah~), I had the chance to take off those freckles. One more time.

Spam you one more of his pictures. How often do you get a cute doctor huh?

This time Dr Zhang advised on Laser Treatment to help with my pigmentation issues. It doesn't hurt, and it's supposedly more effective. And the best part? Those freckles around my eyes and sensitive parts of the skin CAN BE REMOVED!!!!!!!!

Eye freckles - go your mother (for the foreign readers, it's a swear word that means F off)!

Look closely and you will see them. This is with makeup. Boo.

The last you will see of this face. Next time it's all freckly, or with a different set of freckle pattern when new ones develop.

Okay now: Day 1 barefaced

Let me first apologize for the different tints in my pictures. They were due to different lighting when the pictures were taken. I've tried my best to balance it so you can see the results clearly but as I use only iPhoto, it has its limitations.

Before treatment, no makeup: the right profile. Notice the freckles around the eyes? That's right, I don't see much here, but you will see how many deeply embedded ones there are.

Before: Left profile.

This was the machine used. Doctor Zhang said that he will only do on a few spots to see how I react to the treatment. If it goes well, he will do for me my entire face the next time round. =D

Numbing cream was first applied on my face for about 15 minutes. If you have a very low threshold for pain, let Dr Zhang know and he will apply for you a very gao gao layer and leave it on for a longer time.

It's a very strange feeling after the numbing cream was wiped off as I really couldn't feel my face/skin. Like my cheeks weren't mine.

I suppose this was pretty good as I couldn't feel the laser. In fact, I think I dozed off halfway through. LOL. Not for long of course. It took half an hour? Less? And the whole treatment was done.

So I walked out looking like this:

Eeeekssss!!!!! This was immediately after the treatment. My skin felt a little tender, but it lasted for less than an hour, and the discomfort was gone.

Before you run away screaming "OMG I'm not going to do this!!!!", rest assured that the bumps, which were a result of the laser treatment on each freckle, went away in a couple of hours. Meanwhile....

I'm SURE you have these from the Sumatran-fire-days, which weren't very long ago. Who says you have to wait for the next fire to use it? ;)

Day 2. No makeup. I think I look like one of those Ang Mor cartoon characters. With a lot of freckles. Like strawberry shortcake, or Archie, or someone like that. Cute right? Lol!

The swollen bumps have totally subsided, and what's left are the freckles which have surfaced! Scroll up and compare before pictures. Could you tell I had this many freckles??? They were all deep beneath the surface of the skin, and the laser treatment forced them out. Li hai ma?

And this is Day 3:

Yup he zapped 2 freckles off my nose too.

Why I still bother taking pictures with my iPhone 4S, don't ask me. I think generally it has a better battery life than my Samsungs, but the camera, especially the front one...CMI TTM la.
(On a side note, I think the iPhone 5S camera seems really good....but let's save this discussion for another time, if I ever come back to it. >< )

Day 5:

The freckles are starting to dry up. I can feel that they are almost scab-like now.

Day 6:

Not I want to say, but I really think I look very cute with these VERY obvious freckles. Like I purposely drew them on.

Of course in real life freckles don't grow like this.

Day 8:

Finally!!! A lot are starting to come off on Day 8. Doctor told me 2-3 days should start peeling, but it varies with individuals.

I thought since my skin was dry the freckles would scab and fall off faster! Plus I didn't apply any kind of moisturizer during the entire downtime. All I would have on when I needed to go out for work/meet people was makeup. Which meant loads of concealer dotted onto the black spots. Lol.

And this is Day 10!

Clean face? Yes!!!

Of course, like I mentioned, Dr Zhang only did for me a few spots, which frankly speaking, allowed me to see pretty significant results. I'm looking forward to my next treatment, and I will share with you my results for those as well.

Post treatment, your skin will tend to be a little more sensitive. Take extra care when heading outdoors and do not forget your sunscreen. As we want the freckles to dry up and drop off, do not apply moisturiser. It might be worrying for those of you who cannot live without eye cream, but tahan for a few days. It'll be worth it.

With no foundation, only concealer for my panda eyes.

And light makeup. Photo unedited.

This treatment, apart from pigment lightening, also rejuvenates, whitens and brightens your skin. So you will look very clean and radiant after your freckles come off. Like me. Lol bu yao lian. \^^/

How Many Kids?

One of my closest friend's wife just gave birth!!!!! Congrats JOY!!!!!!

I wasn't paying much attention to my phone the whole day, especially the group chats (you know group chats right? Amazing for keeping track of friends' lives 'live' but too much chatter!) and when I opened the group chat, OMG I realized his wife had popped!

For some reason I felt really happy for him - the want-to-cry kind. Maybe it was reading the 'live' updates and having the whole group of friends documenting the entire process - all the anxiety, questions, chatting...that enabled me to feel the atmosphere better. But really, he's the very first very very close friend of mine to have a baby, and that felt somehow special for me. =)

Congratulations Azmi & Joy on having a healthy boy! Will be looking forward to that one month celebration! =D

I do want my own. And I want 3.

Why 3???

I grew up in a big family with my mum and her siblings, and I really enjoy the liveliness that is very apparent in a big family. One minute you have someone coming home with crab, next someone else comes home with the girlfriend, then another one wants to go out for bowling, all at 11pm at night. Happening right? I was 7 at the time, and the house was always so full of activities. I like that most of the time someone had something to say to someone else. Except when the someone was nagging. And that's usually the grandmother. (I hope that won't be me. Will try. I mean it.)

I feel that 1 child is too lonely, 2 is...mmm...ok lor. Let's just say that when you have 3 (or more), someone else would always somehow break the silence. Or at least, there would be more topics to chat about, and I believe that there would be that one child who would help bring the other 2 closer.

A healthy mix of boys and girls would be great, with the eldest being a girl.

That's my ideal, though I don't see myself having any in the next couple of years. For now, work comes first, and I have so much I wish to achieve. Kids will come later, but yes, for sure, they WILL come. I have Alton now, remember? He has been my son since he was a puppy. ^^ (He turns 8 on Tuesday! Am kind of excited about the little party I'm going to throw for him on Weds!)

Have you ever asked for something and not long after you've done so, you find yourself slowly getting what you wished for? It may come as a a whole, or it may come in bits and pieces, but for sure, you know it has somehow materialised.

And then you think about what you asked for not too long ago and wonder if it had anything to do with it. You could have asked for it from your god, whatever your religion, or you could have asked for it from the universe (if you read The Secret like I did). What matters is you asked, and somehow, someone out there decided to help you fulfil it.

It happened to me on many occasions.

Once, when I was going through a very bad time in 2011, I went to the church near my place, and the pastor that day said many things which gave me answers and allowed me to move on. It was almost like God was trying to help give me advise because everything I heard that day seemed to be spoken to me, for me.

Then another time after I read The Secret, I tried it, asked, and received whatever little I asked for. (I didn't dare get my hopes up for fear it wouldn't work, though it contradicts with how the theory works la). Each time after that though, I would ask for something from the universe, like jobs, assignments, etc, and opportunities would present themselves in ways they have never done before.

Recently, I was introduced to the Four-Faced Buddha of Thailand. You can google it or find out more about it on YouTube. It has been told to me that it answers every prayer if you pray to it properly. So I did. And asked for plenty of assignments for the month.

You see, for August, nothing much was happening. I was just doing a few shoots here and there, but these were projects that have been ongoing since a couple of months ago, and there was nothing new. After my encounter with the Four-Faced Buddha which was at the end of August, September gave me a lot of surprises. I was getting email enquiries about my availability for new projects, I was getting auditions, I was meeting people randomly and suddenly getting job proposals.

Just today (yesterday if you are reading it on the 6th), because of too much durian, alcohol, hardcore singing and late nights (don't ask me how this strange combination of activities came about), I was having a pretty bad sore throat, and had decided to give myself a day off and stay home to rest. Okay la it just so happened that I had no shoot, no meetings, no viewings, nothing on at all. So I decided to watch a few good DVDs at home and make it a day for studying academy award winners. Suddenly my phone rings. (Macam school!)

Basic translated convo:
"Hello is this Silver? I am so-and-so from Jack Neo's new movie Everybody's Business. (I nearly fell off my chair at this point.) Due to the rain and some conditions, I was wondering if you are free to come down today to act in a scene for us?"

(trying to remain calm) "Erm what role is it, and what time do you need me there?"

"Oh you'll be a travel agency consultant, and can you be here at 2pm?" (It was 12:55 then.)

I tell you...I nearly died. Let's just say not too long ago I asked for an opportunity to be in a movie as I have been on TV quite a bit but not on the big screen. And also not too long ago when I hoped there would be an opportunity to work on Jack Neo's projects. Well ok it's just a cameo appearance and it was just one scene, but what mattered was that a random opportunity came!!!

And you know what was the strangest part? I checked my email and another person had sent me an email asking me to help her with a scene in a movie, that is, if I'm free today. It was the same production! I thought they communicated and ultimately found me. But no! I spoke to her on set and she told me that she and the person who called me both thought of me for the same role at the same time today, without the other person knowing that both had contacted me! And what were the chances? I was zhorbo-ing at home. Which HARDLY ever happens! And that made me free to go for shoot immediately. Oh by the way, having sudden calls to act on the day itself almost never happens either. It was a first for me today.

I'm not a Christian, nor a Taoist, or a Buddhist. I'm born into a Taoist family, my dad prays to Thai gods, and I go to church with my friends occasionally. I believe there is a a higher up, except I don't know what form mine comes in yet, but I would like to believe there IS some unknown energy at work, and whatever it is, thank you.

For all the amazing things that have happened to me, and those yet to materialize.

Life is exciting as I know it now. =)

P.S I apologize for the weird sentence structures and weird grammar which I know were peppered throughout today's post. My head is spinning from my still-heatiness and lack of sleep thus my incoherence. You're really sweet to read through all the way till here. I'm gonna go and bid you goodnight before I become entirely incomprehensible. Talk again soon. Muah~
