Sponsored: EVERSOFT White High Protection Whitening Sunscreen Lotion SPF55

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honour of being invited by EVERSOFT to their Fair Skin and Sun Protection workshop, together with Yina, Jessica and Juli. I thought everyone looked really good that day!

The topic, Fair Skin and Sun Protection, was of utmost interest to us. It's an Asian girl thing. I know many of our westerner friends can't understand why, but having clear, bright and fair skin just makes us look better. I remembered looking like an entirely different race/nationality when I was really dark as a kid. And I had people speaking to me in Bahasa. Or asking me why I looked so tired all the time. Bleah.

It's not just a young girl's thing, wanting to look fair and beautiful - the participants were in all ages! 愛美是女人一輩子的權利! All women have a right to want to be beautiful. =)

Personally I learnt a lot about whitening skincare and sun protection that day from the beauty trainer Ms Jane Yap. Can you make a guess, if your skin was not exposed to the sun, how old would your skin be before it actually starts aging?

Come, make a guess.

You'd be as shocked as we were.

Ok I got tired of dotting and spacing and entering blanks. Lol...

The answer is: at least 60 years old.

I had no idea what photo-aging meant until I heard that. Sun damage is really the primary factor that causes your skin to age, and those wrinkles and spots to form! (You hear that, western sun-loving friends?!?)

Personally I am a sunscreen-addict. Or a sunscreen freak, whatever you want to call me. If I go out in the day, sunny or not, I must apply sunscreen. This habit started when I was flying as a stewardess, when I had all those seniors who were beauty and skincare gurus. (You have no idea how much stewards and stewardesses are into skincare!) I have even started to end off my morning skincare routine with sunscreen, whether I head out or not, because certain UV rays actually penetrate through glass and get to you via your windows.

I didn't use to like sunscreens. The ones I knew about when I was much younger were called "sunblock". They were thick, left a white gooey film on my skin and somehow certain ingredients gave me rashes and made me itchy. Thus going to the beach with "sunblock" on meant a lot of scratching, which removed the application via my nails anyway and deemed having sunblock on pointless. They were also a pain to wash off.

Thank goodness modern day sunblocks and sunscreens do a much better job now. They feel lighter on the skin, and most importantly do not make me itch like the old sunblocks do.

Some background about sunblocks and sunscreens -
Sunblocks use ingredients which reflect sun rays and block them from penetrating the skin.

The active ingredients in sunblock are usually titanium oxide or zinc oxide, which gives them a thicker opaque consistency, which is the white film left behind. They also use a heavier carrier oil to resist being washed off. Sunscreens utilise ingredients which absorb harmful UV rays before they penetrate your skin. Some people are allergic to certain ingredients, and may decide to use pure sunblock instead of sunscreen.

These days different companies name their sunscreens and sunblock interchangeably, and most sunscreens now are a combination of both, so do check the ingredients label if you have a sensitivity to certain chemicals. I still do not know what it was that made me itch even though I was using what the company named a "sunblock". So I'm always experimenting.

When EVERSOFT told me they have launched a new sunscreen in their EVERSOFT White Skincare line, it's immediately on my need-to-try list.

The new EVERSOFT White High Protection Whitening Sunscreen Lotion SPF 55.

I like how small it is. This would be handy to carry around in my handbag or my tote when I'm out. It is usually recommended that we reapply sunscreen every 2 hours for maximum protection against UV rays. I understand that once we have makeup on it's hard to reapply, but on the days when we decide not to apply makeup (eg. when out hiking/going to the market/bringing the kids to Bt Timah hill/ cycling), this is really handy. It's also great for students without adding much weight to their bags!

Tip: Educate your kids about the importance of sunscreen and start them on the habit of applying. 80% of sun damage occurs by the time we hit our 20s because kids spend so much time outdoors and in the sun! They'll thank you for it when they grow older.

Something about SPF:
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and is a measure of how long a sunscreen remains effective on the skin. The effectiveness of the sunblock is determined by the amount of time it takes for someone to suffer a sunburn, multiplied by the SPF factor. For example, you usually take 10 minutes to develop a sunburn when not wearing sunblock. By applying a sunscreen with an SPF of 55, it'll prevent sunburn for up to 550 minutes, which is around 9 hours!

It is a consolation for us girls who apply sunscreen followed by makeup and find it almost impossible to reapply later in the day, even if your SPF50 sunscreen can only protect you for 6 hours. Because we know that our crazy tropical sunlight is strongest between 10am-2pm. So even if you leave the house for work at 8, you are moderately well-protected. =)

That is of course theory. While a high SPF is great for preventing sunburn, it is not good enough. Invisible skin damage and photo-aging can happen in skin cells which are deeper when UVA rays hit, and you won't be able to see any redness or feel any pain. UVA is also responsible for causing DNA damage to cells, which may lead to skin cancer.

Now you see that the EVERSOFT White sunscreen states that it provides "long lasting protection against UVA and UVB rays". What does that mean?

UVB rays are rays which are responsible for sunburn, so a high SPF sunscreen is great for preventing this type of rays to create damage to your skin.

Always go for sunscreens with at least SPF 15 for adequate protection!

UVB is also the main cause of most skin cancers. UVA can contribute to this, but UVB is the main culprit. UVB- B for BURNS and Bye Bye Life. I may sound morbid, but yes, just so you remember.

UVA rays are Ultraviolet A rays, which are present all year round, regardless of weather or season. If you think you are protected indoors on a gloomy winter's day, you are wrong. They penetrate glass and even certain clothing, so yup, it doesn't matter if your car windows are black, or if your home windows are frosted. Think of UVA rays as a tikopeh who has access to you without you knowing it. O.O

UVA rays causes your skin to turn dark. A tan results from injury to the skin's DNA. Ever heard that fairer skin is more prone to skin cancer than darker skin? The skin develops a tan as a natural attempt to prevent further DNA damage, but this tanning process is a skin cell mutation, which can cause skin cancer.

UVA also causes signs of aging. They penetrate deeper into the skin and may cause irreversible damage. Think pigmentation, wrinkles, and thick leathery skin. Yup, that's UVA - A for AGING.

For our EVERSOFT Whitening suncreen:

SPF factor - thumbs up.
Broad spectrum protection against UVA & UVB rays - check.
Now scroll up and look at the bottle again. What is PA++?

PA stands for Protection Grade of UVA rays, and is a measurement started in Japan to gauge how efficient a sunscreen is against UVA rays, and is based on another Japanese method of measuring UVA protection called PPD - Persistent Pigment Darkening. A PPD rating of 10 would means that it takes 10 times as much UVA exposure to cause damage. You know how Japan is all about anti-aging right? You may not be able to find this on American or European products. The following is a guide:

So a sunscreen with PA+ provides UVA protection of between 2-4, PA++ for between 4-8 and PA+++ for 8 and above. Generally a sunscreen with at least PA++ provides adequate protection against UVA rays.

Conclusion: The EVERSOFT White High Protection Whitening Sunscreen Lotion SPF55 (yes it's a mouthful lol) passed the sun/UV protection tests with flying colours!

Most sunscreens only work to protect against UV rays, but the EVERSOFT White High Protection Whitening Sunscreen Lotion SPF55 has an added bonus: it whitens as it protects!

This sunscreen is enriched with their breakthrough formulation - the Radiant Gene Activator, or RGA, which is a blend of Sakura Extract and Lipo Vitamin C which activates lightening at the heart of your skin cells, resulting in fairer, suppler and more radiant skin! You can read more about how they work here.

Now for the application.
It's a white watery lotion.

See how easily it spreads? It doesn't feel gooey or anything, like any normal lotion.

And it leaves no white cast! You'll feel a layer of something on your skin immediately after application. I was told this is sort of like an emollient film which locks the protect on the skin, but I touched my skin 2 minutes later and I couldn't feel anything. So I can say that it dries clear and leaves no sticky or oily feeling. Me likey!

Here's a picture of me with the whole EVERSOFT White series on my face. Well almost. Lol. I used the facial foam, toner, serum, day cream, the sunscreen which I've been talking about, and their BB cream. Of course I added some light makeup to give me a little bit of colour. What do you think?

No white cast right? And I thought the BB cream gave me pretty decent coverage as well. ^.^

So our role at the event was to share how to take good selfies. Yes we are narcissistic. Nothing wrong with a bit of self-love and flaunting good skin when you have it, right? ;)

We take good we-fies too! Lol!

You can scroll right down to the bottom of the post if you are not interested in my face, because it's going to be selfies galore from here...

2nd Visit to Tokyo Bust!

Girls, admit it, we all want firmer, perkier, fuller and rounder boobs. At least I know I do. I'm sure you've seen those thin girls at the beach in their bikinis with super round perky breasts and thought to yourself "Those must be fake."

Because I thought the same! Lol Sway yarn leh us (cantonese for jinx). Honestly! Because bikinis don't have much support, even if you are wearing a Victoria's Secret bikini with padding it won't push your boobs up to make them look SO full (because I own a few of those, that's how I know).

Conclusion: must be fake.

I was given a surprise when I visited Tokyo Bust again to try out their other treatments. The previous time I tried one to lift up my boobs cos apparently they were sagging (FML at my age???) and it worked wonders la! This time round the specialist assessed my assets again and told me I needed to firm up some more and make it fuller. So we were on the topic of full perky breasts and she told me our breasts were made up of mammary glands, collagen and fats.

So the size of your breasts depends on how much fat you have there since it's mostly fats right?

Uh uh.

Well, yes to a certain extent, but the perkiness...that is affected by the size of your mammary glands.

That's the specialist doing the explanation.

So I was told that we have about 15-20 mammary glands on each side of our breasts. What differentiates our boob sizes are the size of each mammary gland. Some could be as small as a peanut.... while the big ones could be as big as a grape. Or a marble. Imagine 20 grapes in each boob. If you have that I am sure you will not complain of being flat-chested. So what causes mammary glands to be big or small? If you have been fed proper nutrients during puberty chances of you being well-rounded in that aspect is high. I'm sure you've heard of Hong Kong women and papaya milk! And then there are the Japanese and their soy... #mummywhyyouneverteachmeallthese

Also, growing up, how you have been wearing your bra makes a difference. Because fats is also a big component of boobs, if you knew since you were little to grab all your side fats and tuck them into your bra, chances are, you'd have perkier assets than those of us who did not know that. Ever heard of this term called 副乳?Also known as the accessory breast, supernumerary breast, mamma accesoria, or "mini boobs", it's the fats that roll up under your armpits when you wear a tight tube top – those are part of your breasts too, believe it or not.

And if you have been fat and lost weight, chances are the fats on your chest would have been lost as well. Compare that with a thin girl whose boobs developed normally during puberty and who has never tried to lose a lot of weight. Yours would most likely be less perky because it has lost some of its content.

BUT it's okay. All is not lost because *eyes wide open* there is hope!!! And I don't mean implants or fat grafts from other parts of your body ok. Of course you can opt for that, but there is a non-invasive way to firm and plump up your breasts! Ai mai?

Anyway, so I was listening intently on all the things she was telling me about the breast structure that I never knew (I studied Anatomy and Physiology as a module for a year back in school), and I wondered why wasn't this covered in more detail during my classes. I blame my Anatomy teacher for my now-not-perky (I refuse to use the word “droopy”) boobs. And I am grateful that I have the chance to learn about this now before gravity takes over in 20 years and they sag beyond recognition.

Anyway, since I don't have the ideal boobs, when Tokyo Bust Express invited me for a second review I jumped at the chance. They are the leading natural bust enhancement specialist with the most outlets islandwide. An award winning specialist with 7 years of experience, and loads of good reviews from their customers, I know my boobs will be in good hands, again. (They should open classes for men to go learn about their massages. Lol!)

This time round, the outlet I visited was at Park Mall. It's upstairs with some offices and other beauty spas, not in the main shopping area, so if you're shy and don't like people seeing you walk into a bust centre, this is a good outlet to consider. =D

Apart from learning about mammary glands and the structure of breasts, I was told that the treatments use 100% natural ingredients such as soy-infused treatments combined with advanced technology and traditional Japanese massage techniques. Basically soy contains phyto-nutrients which stimulate female hormones and aid in optimal bust development. Now you understand why many Japanese women are well-endowed? Dayum~~~

Also, their bust treatments, apart from letting you be more physically attractive i.e. Sexy, they can also help to improve your health by boosting circulation and helping with lymphatic drainage. I feel that a healthy pair of bust are as important as a sexy round pair. OO

After stripping and letting the specialist examine and handle my bust, I was prescribed a number of treatments which will go hand-in-hand to give optimal results. For me that means a perkier pair of bust which can be closer friends with each other.

To give you a better picture let me take you through my treatments. (Neh neh, I'm not going to show you my boobies, but I will try as best as I can to be visual with my descriptives ok? Lol!)

Getting ready.

I was given a heavenly shoulder massage before my treatments began, and boy, did that help relax me and put me in that “come do whatever you want to me” mood. And then my robe was peeled open and we began my bosom pampering...

Firming Scrub: A scrub was used on my boobs to exfoliate dead skin cells for better penetration of the products later on.

TT Push Up Therapy with Application of Toning Essence: This is a type of bust massage which helps in toning and lifting. This was so comfortable I almost dozed off, after getting used to the fact that someone was manhandling my boobs.

Okina C Therapy: This was also a massage, but with the aid of a machine which uses microcurrents to stimulate blood circulation and increase the absorption and penetration rate of the products used. Even though it uses micro-currents, I didn't really feel anything except a roller-like thing going round and round my bosom.

Taka Meru Mask: This is interesting. You know about facial masks right? But have you ever applied a mask on your bust? I was wrapped in a cloth which acts like a push up bra, except that my bust were exposed. Then a kind of lotion was applied on them, and I was left to sleep in the room, before the specialist came in again about 20-30 minutes and applied a whitish mask across my bosom.

Of course a cellophane wrap was placed over so that I could cover myself up in the blanket and sleep. When I woke, I noticed that my breasts were hard. Not like aroused hard, but HARD hard. So I took a peek and was amused to find that the mask had hardened and taken the shape of my pushed up boobs.

How cool is that??? Lol yes I was clearly amazed.

After this was removed, I was pretty happy to find that my breasts felt firmer and my skin at the bosom area much more hydrated. Apparently this uniquely-formulated mask helps in reshaping our assets to make them rounder and perkier with a fuller contour. It also gives our bust a moisture surge so they are soft and supple. Thumbs up!

Overall result? Slightly perkier and firmer breasts. After just one session?! And I did not have to endure anything painful or extreme, just comfy massages and a breast mask! How they always manage to do it is beyond my understanding. I just know they work. Imagine if I come often! ;)

I was given these 2 precious gems to bring home. The Intensive Bust Enhancement Firming Cream Serum helps to tighten the skin around your bust, preserve suppleness and provide hydration, whilst the Bust Essence helps to firm, lift, and volumize. The good thing is, you can pump both of these onto your palm and massage into your breasts at the same time! Great for lazybusy women! Use them in between your treatment sessions so your breasts still get TLC at home!

If you are looking to enhance your curves the natural way, I highly recommend you pay Tokyo Bust a visit! Because they are not just about making your curves more sexy, they actually care about your bust health the way we should ourselves. =D

Of course, for many of you young wild things, a healthy body also means a sexy one. Enjoy the treatments that I did and also get your dream bustline. That being said, you might want to win this:

Tonight I Understood Something

Hello!!!! Has it been almost a month since my last update??? Oh my gosh! I went on a really long hiatus! June was when I finished all my projects and decided to take a break from work. Which explains the lack of updates here. I have still been actively Instagramming so you can still follow my updates on my IG okay?

So...I'm in Taipei at the moment, and I'm alone in my room thinking about how the universe works in strange bring things to you, to let you understand things, to make you a better person. You must be thinking why am I being so philosophical today, especially after having gone missing for so long.

Hey, sometimes I need something which will jerk my emotions enough to compel me to pen it down, and tonight I have one of those. #soemo

Well, okay this post is going to let you into my heart and more into my private life, which I haven't done so in a long time.

I just met my ex, D, for dinner here, and 2 nights ago, and he was still being an awesome person, wanting to bring me to places, take lead, be the man. And I totally appreciate it of course. He never made me worry about what to do or where to go because he would always take lead. =) So there was a lot of talking and catching up, and I thought, hey the chemistry is still there! That's great! But somehow I could always feel that there was more to it on his end. Like, he still felt something for me.

I can almost hear a lot of you going "Give it another shot!" Trust me, I had a long struggle with myself before I decided to do the split. He's someone who fulfils my entire checklist of what I look for in a man

Ok maybe that checklist needs to be updated cos, well, you learn more about yourself in every relationship.

Still, that's quite a feat, no? All 20 checks. That's something!

But then there is this thing we call long-distance and common direction and goals and a whole bunch of other factors that ultimately made me decide that I have to let this go. Or maybe it's a bunch of factors which led to this deciding factor that made me call for the split- I fell out of love.

I mentioned Chemistry there, but this encounter with him made me realise this - a relationship with chemistry and without spark is called... a Friendship. Just that.

But hey, there is this guy who's loyal, capable, family-oriented, who has almost everything you want in a life partner (according to the old checklist), and it seems he has become a better person and he still wants you, shouldn't you give it a try? I tried. I tried to go with the flow, see if I could feel anything. I can safely say that I'm someone who bravely pursues love if I feel it, but this time, it didn't come. Or rather, it didn't return. And I actually felt a little sad about it. Because I know I would be letting a good man slip through.

Which brings me to the thought - should I even be using logic to assess this? I remember talking 2 friends out of marrying just for the sake of stability. I might be a romantic idealist, but I want my sparks and fireworks, and I want them to last. Without the spark plug, how will the engine even start, right?

I'm not sure if I'm holding back on purpose, or if it's a subconscious thing. I can't tell. But while I was thinking about this, I'm reminded of another past relationship, one which I found so hard to let go because we were so in love and I had to spoil it.

I tried so hard to get that relationship to work again, but nothing could move him or bring him back. I think I finally understand why. Mutual friends have told me he loved me with all his life, but he got hurt, and he fell out of love. I didn't understand then how someone could just let go when you had so much together. Actually, you can. If you get hurt enough that you feel nothing anymore.

Tonight, I finally understood.

It's really rare and beautiful to find someone you love, who loves you the same. So many billions of people around the world, and it has to be him/her. =) Be thankful and glad if you have a special someone. You can't buy food with love, but love can feed your soul. I'll take a well-fed soul any day. =)

Of course, the Universe works in strange ways. Even if that relationship you're in doesn't work out, trust that somehow it's meant to happen, and something better will come your way. There is going to be lessons learnt, experiences had, and stories to be shared later on.

Patience Self, you'll find out more. Soon enough.

P.S I apologise if I don't sound very coagulative cos I haven't been writing for a while and my thoughts are just anyhow flying all over the place. Paiseh! >.<
