2013: The Amazing Year That's Going To Be

Because it sounds better than "Resolutions", and I know it IS going to be a great year of leaps. I am finally ready to start blogging ladies and gentlemen! And what better way to blog than start it off with resolutions that I am going to keep.

You heard me. All too often we make resolutions and never keep them beyond the first 2 weeks of January. So I'm going to start mid January so I have until end of the month.

Ok kidding. Lol. I am going to see my resolutions through the year, and although some of them may seem silly, they are going to be achievements come December when I've actually followed them through. There's just something immensely gratifying about seeing things through, especially when you need to do them for 12 months straight. That's quite a feat, if you ask me. Judge me come June, okay? Here goes!

P.S. I will start with just 3. But add on more with each passing month. They say when you do something consecutively for 7 days it becomes a habit. I'm going to do a month, so it's not such a daunting task to stick to like 20 resolutions all at once. Make/change a habit, then develop new ones.

1. Exercise 3 times a week

For someone who really does not like running and really can only do classes, this is a huge challenge. I've been saying that I want to hit below 50kg ever since like, what, 8 years ago? And I am still here beyond 50 (I have to announce with great regret that I gained 5kg over the last 1 month in Shanghai to become a hefty 57.6kg. Like what the eff???) When I saw the numbers on my weighing scale. That was when I knew - I HAD to do something.

Okay I have my spa machine to cheat with on days I don't actually put on exercise gear, so on days when I really really really can't do my exercises, I can still soak and sweat away. But I'll only use that as an excuse when I really have no time to exercise, and not when I am just plain lazy.

So what have I got planned? I started going to the gym since last Friday, 11 January. Knowing I won't be disciplined to just go the gym, I engaged a personal trainer. I wanted a toned body, nice sculpted Victoria's Secret Angels abs, nice arms, legs that look great in shorts, and a radiant flush that only comes with exercising (and not blusher). My sources of inspiration? These 2 lovely ladies:

VS Angel & Mrs Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr.

And of course, my long time idol whose body looks better than before -

I really cannot show you my body now because it's just thick and flabby (I talk about it like some piece of meat at the market. Lol~) but I promise I will show you guys what it looks like by March. *takes post it, writes down note and sticks on desktop*

2. Drink 2 litres of water daily.

This is also a challenging one to achieve because even though I stress on the importance of water and the wonders it does for your skin, your complexion and your general health, I am very guilty of only downing a maximum of a cup of water on some days. This January, I'm going to start keeping a water log (go on, laugh, but I'm doing it anyway) so I know exactly how much I am drinking. There is this Water Log app in AppStore so it's going to come in very handy.

Pssst...did you know that when you drink water, your internal organs get hydrated first before it will reach your skin, so to get that dewy glow, you really need a lot of water!!!

Benefits of hydration:

  • Your skin is more resilient and less prone to wrinkles. Yes people with dry skin tend to get wrinkly faster. See point above.

  • It helps you to poop.
For years I struggled with constipation, and when I say constipation I mean like I go once every 3-4 days. Scary huh. I have been for a barium enema where they fill up your intestines with a barium liquid so that x-rays can be taken of the intestinal tract. This is usually done to diagnose or rule out disorders of the intestinal tract, and was ordered by the doctor when I complained of difficulty pooping and even bleeding (cos it was so dry...)

So it turned out my large intestine was significantly longer than usual by about 30% (that's a lot of space for more shit storage...-.-"), and for years I lived with the "fact" that there was nothing I could do about it if I have been living this way and it doesn't interfere with my health.

How could it not??? The large intestines are involved with reabsorption of whatever the small intestines have left out, which means it's just sucking dry all the nutrients from my shit (really no wastage), aka it's making me put on weight cos no ho liao is wasted??? Okay I'm really more concerned about the toxins that might get reabsorbed into my system. The longer shit stays in there, the more toxins are going to get reabsorbed and accumulated. I am not going to be a victim of colon cancer, thank you very much.

  • It keeps your energy levels high~~~~
How many times have you felt lethargic because you haven't been properly hydrated? (Or you were not even aware that it was because of poor hydration?) Water transports oxygen, nutrients, works with vitamins and minerals so your cells can use them, transports toxins out of your system (that is what peeing and pooping and sweating are for), and regulates your body temperature (so there is truth when Mummy says to drink a lot of water to flush out the heat whenever I have a fever or feel "heaty").

  • Your brain functions better.

This one I can relate to. I sometimes go on shoots without remembering to drink water, until I feel like my brain juices are squishing in my head. Ever felt that way? Like it's a headache but not really, and every shake of the head feels like the juices are making your head "sour". Okay I might not be making sense if you haven't experienced this (good for you, it means you have been well-hydrated), but those of you who can relate, just down a half bottle of water. You will immediately feel better. =)

3. Spend an hour each day reading. At least.

I made this resolution to read 1 book a week. It never got done, and that was one resolution I regretted not having seen through. So far I have done a pretty good job of reading for at least an hour daily, and perhaps I just might hit one book a week. And even if I don't, I know I am reading consistently. (I think there were months last year that I didn't read any book AT ALL. *horrors!*)

I'm all revved up for the darn good year ahead. Are you?

My bike is still in use, in case you are curious. ;)

2012 was the end of the world. The old one. 2013 marks new beginnings.

May 2013 be an AMAYZEEENG YEAR!!!!!!!
