SIA Interview
Hands up! Those of you going for the interview later at Sheraton Towers!
*squints*
Alright alright, I see you~ Though I wonder why you're not sleeping yet since it starts at 9am. Anxiety? Or you're up too early? Anyways, you should be there about 8:15 or 8:30am. Come anytime after 10, and you're guaranteed to queue until at least 2pm (for just Round 1 of at least 3 rounds). If you come early, at least you get your shot early and can leave early.
Advice, you say? I'm here to share. What is the internationally-acclaimed airline looking for in their cabin crew? Do you have what it takes?
Now that I have your attention. I apologize for taking the whole day for this post cause my godpa invited me to go to M'sia with him and a few friends for praying and makan~
Be yourself. You need to BE it. Not fake it out just so you land the job cos it WILL be hard on you later on and you will want to quit before your bond ends and you'll have to end up forking out S$10k to terminate your bond. Not worth it ya? What do I mean by "it"?
The following are MY own words or advice. You can always choose to just follow your heart.
Looking good helps. But it's not everything. Note that messy/gappy teeth and scars (especially those on the wrist which indicate a former suicide attempt. Small cuts & grazes are fine.) which can be seen will have you booted out in round 1. Same goes for unkempt hair. And bad skin. Solve those problems before you decide to go for the interview k? In this job, people DO judge you by appearance, more often than you'd like. These are some other qualities that you should have that makes you stand out (& make them want to shove that kebaya into your arms) among the hundreds of thousands of hopefuls in that interview hall:
*Especially after July since this is when bonuses are given out and LARGE NUMBERS OF CABIN CREW quit after taking the money. This will result in a serious lack of crew, especially FSS - stewardesses (turnover rate is the highest for stewardesses, many quit every month, and many more want to come in). Each flight has a minimum number of crew required for operations so not enough FSS means there'll be cases of flights with too many supervisory crew. (I've been on one of those crazy flights - there were 3IFS/S, 5CS/S, 7LS/S, 1 poor steward plus 2 stressed out stewardesses including yours truly. Imagine the tension.) Then recruitment drives come and you see huge ads on the papers asking you to join the prestigious airline.
Yes, you heard me, many people quit after taking the bonus. After all, you helped the company earn those profits, didn't you? It's right that you take the few months' worth of bonuses, THEN leave, right? Why quit? You ask. Many reasons, darlings.
Unless it is your ultimate dream to be an air stewardess, most people are there, and have stayed there (really, to be very honest) for the money. You've read it on their recruitment ads. An average of S$3.5k remuneration per month. Sometimes 2k, sometimes even 6k, depending on how "heng" you are with the roster. Other than the money, of course comes with it breakfast in Singapore and lunch in London, entering the office door in Singapore to leave the same door at Tokyo. How cool is that right?
Also, unless you're VERY lucky to have had great batchmates (aka classmates) who stay close long after graduation, or made many very good friends in the airline, I must warn you that it can be a lonely job. Gone are the days of team flying, where you often fly with the same set of crew which over time, you bond with. Every flight begins in the briefing room with a series of handshakes and "I'm Silver, pleased to meet you." Once in a while, you see a familiar face whom you've flown with before (but somehow couldn't remember the name), or you meet someone whom you've had dinner with in Seoul a year back (and that was the last time you guys saw or spoke to each other). If you're damn heng, you meet a kaki, and that, I assure you, will be a GREAT start to your flight. Which also means you can arrange to go shopping or makan and have great fun together when you get to your destination. I know I've been ecstatic each time I know I'm flying with a familiar face / good friend (Corine or Sherine, to name 2 ^.^ There are, of course, a few others.)
Culture Shock. Be prepared for it. This is like army-boot-camp-strict, so for the guys who think they've finally graduated from that institution of strict rules and discipline, think again.
Hair? Black or dark brown only, in other words, au naturel. Insist on dyeing it? Spray it black. EVERY flight. Guys? Short. And I mean SHORT. No long fringe (chop chop!) or sideburns. And kiss the below looks goodbye.
BMI? 21 and below, or chances are you'll get singled out to be monitored, and in severe cases (we DID have them), you will be grounded. Meaning taken off all your flights (which means there goes your allowances), and put to do miscellaneous paper work or something in mainland Singapore, UNTIL you get back to the desired weight.
Watch? No Marc Ecko, or Baby G, or other fancy watches. Basically, not even your regular swatch watch. Not even a plain all white watch. It HAS to be black, brown, silver, gold, or if I'm not wrong, maybe dark blue as well. That's all. And oh! The watch face MUST NOT be bigger than a 50cent-coin. Basically, think office-y. The watch should complement your uniform, which makes you look more professional. =)
Contact lenses are a must. So is make-up. And red nail polish. And bobby pins. And hairspray/other hairstyling products. (No company reimbursement on these products okay?)
The following may shock some: No talking on the mobile while you are mobile. Which is to say, you can't walk and talk (or even sms) at the same time. Nope. Not even if your grandma/mother/husband/girlfriend calls. Or if you wanna call them while walking to the gate cos once you reach the gate you gotta get into the aircraft and start working your ass off. Nope. Cannot. 不可以. They probably don't want you to forget your decorum whilst on the phone. Some crew have been written in (by other crew *rolls eyes*) and they have had to go back to office on their off days to do an explanation, or been given demerit points. Which doesn't make any sense to me since SO MANY crew have been seen SMOKING in PUBLIC AREAS and NOTHING have been done to them (because so many of those who do it are SENIOR RANKING CREW - the greens, reds, and purples). Read the next point.
No smoking in uniform, though you will find many bad examples at T3 arrival pick-up point. Look at it this way, you represent the Singapore Girl, an icon more recognized than, say, Zoe or Fann, or maybe even some Hollywood stars. People see a stewardess in the signature kebaya and go "That's one of the best airlines in the world~" I'm not exaggerating. I heard it myself and gawked (inside of course, couldn't show that gawking expression while I'm in uniform, can I? 形象~~~)"Impeccable service" and "Which airline is that? Their uniform is so elegant~" are some other comments you will hear as you saunter past people. Of course, I've heard a common one which never failed to make me want to laugh and cry at the same time: "Are you girls going for a dance performance?" Whatever it is, the uniform attracts attention. So be prepared to upkeep your decorum AT ALL TIMES. And seeing a SQ crew smoke in uniform is not one of it. I fell victim to it for a couple of months. Later on, I realized that a stewardess smoking in uniform resembles painfully like those Shanghai hookers in cheongsam in the 30s. Tak glam la~~~
Anyway, just don't smoke la. I don't have to say much - you KNOW why you shouldn't.
You start to lose your values. In other words, you start to change. Ask any senior crew, and they will share with you how you must really learn how to say no and be firm if you don't want to lose yourself, which many do. Non-smokers start smoking (I DETEST it, yet I picked it up then, just a few months before I quit. Thank god I've stopped shortly after I quit flying. It stinks, spoils my image, wastes money, and dirties my room. I STILL don't like the idea of it.)
You start to think nothing of sleeping around. Why I say so is because I know countless examples of stewards (attached, some for years) sleeping with other stewardesses. And I mean COUNTLESS examples. I know of too many. And these stewards have other halves which are NOT in the company, so these poor girls can't check their bfs' or husbands' (god forbid) rosters to see if there is a name which appears in his crew list consistently. Conducive, I must say - the rooms are free and readily available. Yes, there are rules saying you are NOT to go to the rooms of any members of the opposite sex, except maybe if that's your other half. But no one is governing that rule. Unless something happens, like a reported case of rape (countless examples of cry-rape in the past year, if you ask me). Ah~~ THEN the company will come in and investigate. Which usually turns out ugly. Also, there is always the number one excuse of "expensive telephone bills" so the bf won't call and the considerate gf won't call either so his phone bills don't explode.
Here's one tip: Girls, try Skype or Sunpage. Calling his hotel room number using Skype or Sunpage means it's damn cheap for you, and it's free for him. ;)
The above can be the other way round too k? Meaning it's the girl who sleeps around. Heck, I even know crew who fucks around when their other half is ALSO flying. (Can be on the same flight somemore...*faint*)
Oh, of course there are the single guys and girls in the airline who don't give a damn who they bed. They will try all sorts of methods to come into your room and bunk in with you. Below are a few (real-life) examples:
Be prepared for a damn bitchy environment. Yes, it still exists. Especially if you're damn good at your work / damn chio / damn popular / damn anything, you will be talked about. And most times, people find it easier to speak only about the bad. Human nature? Though they could just advise, or let the said party know what they're not happy about - I think transparency goes a longer way. The airline would be a much nicer place to work for if everyone's genuinely nice around (and behind) each other. And IF you have a foul mouth, please don't go join the airline. Go write the tabloids or something, okay? Or better still, train yourself to be nice. It will become a habit after a while. =)
You only work on the way there and back. Rest of the time outstation and in Singapore? Free and Easy!!! You can eat/sleep/shop/play games/watch TV/do whatever you want! You don't bring your work home. You shop EVERYWHERE. Coach and Abercrombie from the US, Miumiu from Milan, H&M from wherever, face masks from Seoul (trust me, these things are so much cheaper in their mother country - save money!). You see and meet all sorts of people. You get to eat great food onboard for free like gorgonzola, smoked salmon, and sometimes, maybe even Wagyu beef (if the first class passenger orders something else or chooses not to eat!). Food and drinks provided onboard. Free use of the gyms at most hotels (save on gym membership!). You don't have to clean up your own mess in your hotel room cos there's always Housekeeping. You get paid to see the world.
And the best part? When passengers come up to you and shake your hand, thanking you for what a wonderful flight they had. I had a passenger send a card to the office requesting that it be delivered to my home. In it was a nice long message telling me how I brightened up his day and that it was one of the most wonderful flights he has had and how I was an asset to the company. That satisfaction? Priceless.
Just remember. Be true to who you are, and be true to your loved ones.
Or I'll hate myself for promoting the job. Like, seriously.

In this job, people DO judge you by appearance, more often than you'd like. These are some other qualities that you should have that makes you stand out (& make them want to shove that kebaya into your arms) among the hundreds of thousands of hopefuls in that interview hall:
- Passion to serve. Cliched, yes, but so very true. You need to love helping people. The tools are there. Food, drinks, milk bottles, diapers, letter pads, what-have-yous, and your brain. Free of charge. Provided. You don't have to pay for them. It's just a matter of how you use them to help your passengers. And nothing means more than a genuine sincerity in wanting to give the best to your passengers.
- Love being with people. This is essentially a PR job, not just serve food and drinks. Your duty is to get these humans, these PEOPLE, from point A to point B and make that journey as happy and comfortable as you possibly can.
- Be a great actor. You WILL get shouted/screamed at. For nothing. Chances are, it's not your fault. But you get yelled at anyway. You WILL need to exercise great acting skills and patience to be apologetic first (and I mean "Sorry" FIRST, no matter what) and find out what is wrong, then resolve the passenger's problems.
- Be assertive when the time calls for it. And by this I mean emergencies - evacuations, medical emergencies, anything. Know when to tell someone to stop if you are being molested. They want a confident chick who isn't just pretty in a kebaya, but not easily messed with as well.
- Speak well. Especially English. Try a Ris Low, and you can basically see where you are (not) headed. If you can't see it, may I suggest one thing? Don't bother trying for the interview.
- Carry yourself well. Do not be a worm and fidget machiam there's a vibrator in you. Stand tall, stand straight. Walk properly without dragging your feet, and when you talk to the interviewer, look them in the eyes.
- Corporate wear will do just fine. No hip hip baggy jeans and huge FEAR sweaters.Don't even think of going in jeans. (Though I went for mine in one then...I've been told by some crew that jeans were considered "inappropriate" and "too casual".) Guys, shirt, tie, pants, proper work shoes. And you're good to go.
- Enjoy the interview! Talk to the interviewers, laugh, tell them things, chat with them! They want to see if you have that personality to hold a conversation. You will be talking to passengers a lot, and they don't want someone rigid, grouchy, with no sense of humour, and worse still, stoic, to leave a bad impression on the passengers.
- Just be yourself. They want to see if you are what they want. They'll be doing you a favour if they do not choose you. Because it WILL be hard, though not impossible, for you to change yourself to suit the job. Find a job which suits you, and in time to come, you will be earning more than what this company pays. ;)
*Especially after July since this is when bonuses are given out and LARGE NUMBERS OF CABIN CREW quit after taking the money. - After a tanning session at the Maldives, call your room to say he/she has aloe vera gel for sunburns and asks if you would like some. Then when he/she comes over to pass the said gel, offers to "help" you apply.
- Calls to tell you he/she is bored. And whether you would like to chill together. Like can he/she come over to watch TV. (Machiam their room don't have.) Then when you ignore him/her and goes to sleep on your own bed, you suddenly find an arm wrapping itself around your body. ~.~"

OF COURSE, THERE ARE PERKS & GREAT STUFF TOO!!!
Okay, enough of the discouragement. Other than the above points, it is a great job. Trust me, I really enjoyed my time as a stewardess. I quit because of my opportunity to return to the media industry, which is still my first love. You only work on the way there and back. Rest of the time outstation and in Singapore? Free and Easy!!! YourPrettyExStewardess,

You forgot to mention something... which is, some hotel that the crew members get to stay might be haunted... did u ever have that experience before?
ReplyDeleteThank god, hell no~ ^.^
ReplyDeleteYes, I even heard that the Airline industry is quite of a faker industry as in you need to HU(4) DONG(4) with your fellow collegues in order to get popular. Like those FS who are independent sort who loves to go dining and shopping alone while they are overseas..they will be given an outcast look. Poor them.
ReplyDeleteAnd btw some girls are there to just want to get attracted by the pilots...so that they can be a tai tai. They dun care if the pilot is short, ugly or whatever....so long they are pilot can alr. Silver, u must know better than me. :) It is quite a complicated industry...i agree with Carol cos some quitted becos they hv bad spooky experience when they are in the hotel and in the end they hv to bunked in with others.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention that those who are not a good actress is better not to join the industry. Becos day in day out u are facing pax and got to give them a force grin even on your bad day or get scolded by the pax. Even if pax shout at you and ask you to get lost asap...u still have to apologise to them. To be truth, being FS is a tough job. That is why the turnover is so high...But come to think of the perks(like travelling and shopping), many gals will endure not due to passion to serve. Sadly to say that.Even if you are scolded by the bad pax, worse is that u r allocated a seat(when taking off and landing) which you hv to sit face-to-face with them again. I wonder what facial expression u hv to give them when u r angry with them. Give them a XIA Lan face or...? At the end of the day, I still want to salute our brave Singapore girl for having such a strong character. As we all know, customers/ pax are always the KING.
ReplyDeleteIs it really true that if I will not selected if I got scars on my wrists?
ReplyDeleteMozzie-bite scars are okay. Not those long slashed-acrossed kinds.
ReplyDeleteSilver, post some pictures of u as an FS.How old were u back then? How many years as FS?
ReplyDeleteI thought u were an optomogist after the superstar competition LOL
Very insightful and comprehensive blog entry about the life of a cabin crew. I am going to "favourite" this page for my future reference. =)
ReplyDeleteOh...no wonder...u are the superstar candidate "Zi Hui". didn't know you were a SQ girl before.
ReplyDeletea cabin crew need to stand through out the long journey is it ????
ReplyDeletedo u need to study very high to be an cabin crew? pls reply...bcuz i dream to become a air stewardess
ReplyDeletewhat interview questions do they usually ask? what they expect actually?
ReplyDeletelet me reply the last 3 questions (i'm not silver). during long haul flights, you get allocated breaks. min requirement is A level or diploma, but more uni grads are joining (dunno why). as for interview questions and expectations, you can find them easily online. come on, if you want to try for the job, you have to do your research. :)
ReplyDeleteThey don't usually ask like, relevant questions. Usually they'll just chat with you, and ask you about yourself. It's more about how you carry yourself.
ReplyDeleteHi silver , do they only accept a government diplomas ?? How about a private diplomas from not a well known school ?? Looking forward to your prompt reply soon thanks (:
DeleteARE THEY STRICT ON HEIGHT REQUIREMENT>
ReplyDeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteJust wanna ask if i have finished my last paper in Sept for school and most probably getting my results in Nov, will i able to go for the interview in the month of Aug?
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI am wondering whether scars on legs can be excused since the uniform is a kebaya? Also will they make exceptions if I am in my early thirties?
After reading this blog, I requested my daughters never to be a stewardess... :o
ReplyDeleteHey Stephen,
DeleteIt's really all about values and morals and being 自爱. I think I came out a better person after flying. Not all will turn bad or start smoking or sleep around especially if they have the right values in life. =)
hello, what brand of red nail polish is approved for SIA crew? thanks!
ReplyDeleteFor cheap buys, I recommend Skin Food Red in RE101. Sure pass. I used it when I was flying! Much cheaper than OPI too!
ReplyDeleteHihi..Silver..
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to read your shared.
I really get so much information.
I will have to SIA interview, very nervous and worried about the interview.
For steward interview, what kind of clothes you suggestion? Office looks? or business suit?
Thank you so much.
Edmund
Hey silver!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this with us, letting us know what to expect in a cabin career.
I'm curious, what question did they ask you when you were being interviewed? If you don't mind saying, that is.
:)
Does being mutlilingual (knowledge of European languages + English + Mother Tongue) give one an advantage?
ReplyDeleteHonda>> Office wear please. I've got friends who went to try out in jeans and t-shirt and was sent home because of that. He went a second time in office wear and got it. Lol~ So even if you fit the bill for the job, wrong presentation may cost you that interview.
ReplyDeleteXin Lei>> They will just chat with you, asking anything from why you want to join, to what you like to eat, to your hobbies, your previous job...yada yada...they want to see if you can speak well. =)
ReplyDeleteAnon>> Definitely.
ReplyDeleteso if my bmi is higher than 21 i wont even have a chance on passing the interview? or if i look alright then its okay
ReplyDeleteAnon> If you look alright you should be fine. =)
ReplyDeleteHi Silver! I am female, 24 yrs of age. What is the age limit for SIA interview? I love your smile by the way :)
ReplyDeleteFor females, 26. But if you look young and have what it takes, by all means, go try~
ReplyDeletedid you get in with your first try?
ReplyDeleteHi Anon 10Jan>>
ReplyDeleteI did! =D
nice read!
ReplyDeletedoes one has to have good skin? how about mild acne scars? any cc manage to get in just by concealing it?
ReplyDeleteYes if you can conceal the scars there is no issue.
DeleteHi Silver, when you are in hotels overseas, do you get to bunk with other stewardesses or do you get a room on your own? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone gets their own room. =)
DeleteThank you :) Did you have any spooky encounters? :\
DeleteThank god, no! I've heard too many though. Bleah~
DeleteHi Silver, I am going to the interview soon. I have no one to speak to about this, hopefully you can clear my doubt.. :) Will you get forced to sleep with another guy? If so, how do you deal with it?
ReplyDeleteHi Jay,
DeleteNever let anyone force you to do something you do not wish to do (I'm not talking about crew duties onboard). No one can force you to sleep with them. If in the event that you find yourself ending up alone in another guy's room (maybe the whole bunch left, or you happen to click well with him), if he tries to be funny, tell him firmly but nicely that you do not wish to take things "there". Should he not get the message and persist, you may have to warn him that you will report the matter to the Inflight Supervisor or the Chief. Usually that should stop them from taking things further. If all else fails, don't be afraid to scream, or pick up the phone in the room to call for help.
This rarely happens. And in the unlikely event that it happens, do not be afraid to protect yourself. Your parents did not give birth to you so others could take advantage of you. Remember that. =)
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteMay I know if a cabin crew can give birth during employment? Any maternity leave? Can still go back after that?
Thanks.
Unfortunately, once you get pregnant, you will have to resign from the company. If you are past your first 2 years of employment, you may be able to return to flying after your delivery (and after getting that figure back!). However, won't you want to spend time and watch your baby grow up? =) I know I would.
DeleteSilver!
ReplyDeleteMay I know if there's blood test for the medical check up?
The doctor wrote about my scar on the forehead but during the skin check and kebaya round they alr passed me? Will my application be afftected based on what the doctor wrote?
If they've passed you physically u shouldn't worry. =)
DeleteHi
DeleteI am facing the same issue now. Went through all the rounds till the medical and the doctor wrote about my scar on my lower arm. I wonder if I should be worried?
Hi,
ReplyDeletei have a scar on my hand, and i'm going to conceal it using bb cream for the coming interview. it'll be a bit lighter the skin color. is it possible for me to pass the skin test? can i wear a watch during the skin test?
Yes you can wear a watch, and don't worry about the scar! What's more important is your confidence and your personality! (because you'll acquire scars from the job anyway, lol~ ) Good luck!
DeleteHi Silver, If i have bangs now like yours, should i gel to the side or just let it be for the SIA interview? I'm afraid it would be seen as untidy. Please let me know Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJust leave it be is fine! Don't need to look like you're trying TOO hard. They want to see your personality during the interview! =D
DeleteHi Silver! Will they accept me if I have curly hair?
ReplyDeleteOf cos!
DeleteHey Silver! Thanks for your kind sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy BMI is 20.6 I'm so scared during the Kebaya round, suay suay I couldn't fit into them! I heard they r all tight and slim Kebaya left from ex-stewardess. Do you think I'm on the safe side? Or there might be a possibility I can't fit into it? Thanks!!
Sorry I meat I'm going for the walk in interview and so scared of body figure can't fit into those Kebaya. Please advice!
DeleteUr BMI is safe dear! =D
DeleteDo you know how to do the french roll SIA is famous for? And the part about sleeping around. I'm so glad to see you noticed. I had a boyfriend who did the exact thing to me.
ReplyDeleteI do the French Twist! (Cos my hair is too fine - when I tie it into a bun it's the size of a small siewmai, according to my batch mates lol!)
DeleteAnd I'm glad that boyfriend is a "had". Meaning a great man has room to enter your life! ;)
Thanks for your reply! You are so pretty...hope to see u on tv more often!!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to be an air stewardess if I don't have a set of straight teeth? I've seen a lot of (ex) air stewardesses photos (including yours), they all have nice, perfect and straight teeth!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, a great smile is important to be a Singapore Girl.
DeleteA batch girl of mine tried like 5 or 8 times (I really can't remember how many except that she did many attempts!) and she got in together on our final interview! The interviewees asked her to go in a second time (we were all keeping our fingers crossed for her!) and asked if they let her thru, would she do anything about her teeth? (Meaning Invisalign or other non-visible teeth alignment alternatives)
Of cos she said yes! And she's been flying ever since. (Oh she's grown really pretty over the years!)
Moral of story: Yes they do require a nice set of teeth, but if they feel that you will be an asset to the company, they'll still welcome you onboard! (Then fix the imperfections later~ *wink*)
Hi, Silver..
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice blog you have.. Really get lot of useful and interesting story here.
Currently, I am a teacher. Before that, I have trying 3 times interview before work as this job. The third time, I get into final, but unfortunately...
Flying is my dream, I hope I can moving to this job before I serve the teaching bond..or I have to wait another 4 years...28yrs!! Still can apply for this job? Should i try again in the coming interview? haiz....
心中滿混亂的...
Edmund
Go for what your heart tells you to. You only live once. Go see the world, then come back to teaching if you wish after a few years. Your experience as a crew will help you with handling kids, and you will have more stories to tell.
DeleteDon't live with regrets, or what-ifs. Jiayou!
Hi silver, if i have highlighted hair, can i go for the interview like that or do i have to dye it black?
ReplyDeleteIt's really up to you! Personally, I feel that unless you have blond/pink/purple/blue/orange/green hair, you're generally safe. They want to see your personality, and whether you are cut out for the job. Hair can always be dyed black later on (and they will tell u to!) when they want you. Jiayou!
DeleteYou're really nice! It's a 2010 post and you're still replying comments even until today :)
ReplyDeleteI have a question! Are mozzie-bite scars on the shin area alright? :/
Mozzie bites are okay dear! Everyone will get them. =)
DeleteHi silver,
ReplyDeleteI would be Going for the Aug interview. I'm 28 male this year would it be too old to still join? Are they as strict in guys when it comes to straight teeth? The upper portion is OK but below is kinda CMI. As for bmi for guys is 21 as well?
thanks!
Regards,
SHINJI
Hello Shinji,
DeleteI remember the average age for male cabin crew then was about 25-28. So 28 is not too old! Don't worry! As for teeth, if your upper teeth is straight I think it shouldn't be a problem unless you show 2 sets of teeth when you smile. Lol~
And BMI 21 is safe la!!!! Good luck!
Hi Silver thanks for the reply, it was 25.4..im on diet now at 24.9 with one more month to go.
DeleteAnyway thanks so much
SHINJI
Hi Silver! Thanks for sharing so much on your blog, I wished I could've read it earlier! But oh well better late than never :) Was hoping you can help me out with this one. During my kebaya round I've been advised by assessor that I may need to cut my hair short cos of open ears. I was wondering if I will be allowed to grow my hair out again after the training or do I have to wear my hair at that length throughout my entire time with SIA?
ReplyDeleteThey might not allow you to tie up your hair. That will depend on who you fly with. Some crew may, upon seeing your ears, write you in or ask that you go back to office for assessment.
DeleteI suggest that if you wish to tie it up, try to tie it up in such a way that the ears are not so opened up (e.g. tie the sides poofier?) Or maybe you might want to consider surgery to sew it backwards. It will help with your overall appearance as well. =)
Hi Silver! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experiences as an air-stewardess..! Wished I had chanced upon your post earlier. I have a few questions in mind that I wanna ask.. I hope you don't mind!
- Is it okay to have moles on your lower arms / hands?
- I had a bad fall earlier this year and the scar on my knee has yet to heal. :( Will that affect my chances?
- I will be graduating at the end of this year.. Do you think it's advisable for me to try out the interview coming August/September?
Thank you so much in advance.. :)
Hey Sherry!
DeleteYes it's okay to have moles on ur arms.
Knee scars are fine~ the kebaya is long remember? ;)
You can go try out and tell them you will be available end of the year.
Good luck!
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI am going for the upcoming August interview and I am worried about my mild acne scars on my cheeks. Would they still accept if I cover them up. And can u recommend a good silicone based foundation, concealer or primer to cover up. Thank you
Don;t worry about mild acne scars! Yes you can cover them up. =) & most concealers are good! I personally like true match concealer from Maybelline, and ZA's perfect concealer.
DeleteHi silver,
ReplyDeleteYour Blog was so useful for me.My Passion for flying started when i was in primary school and ever since then i would want to be a flight steward. currently i am 23 and i have no scar or anything. my height is 200cm and weight is 90kg. (BMI 22.5). May i also know whether do males have the trying on the suit round and if they don't have how would they be selected?
lastly may i know for BMI(for males) what is the maximum BMI you can have?thank you.Have a nice day!!:D
You are VERY tall!!!!! I don't think males have the suit-trying round, but then again, they modify every interview so it might be different. If in doubt, JUST GO TRY!!!! You never know for sure until then. ;) And there are people who got in only on their 4th, 5th try. So if i's what you want, don't let not getting selected this time round deter you!
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are still replying comments! I have skin allergy since young, and left a lot of scars on my leg. Though the kebaya is long, will they reject because of the amount of scars I have? ): And I saw the requirement on the website, if I don't have 5 GCE O'level credit, is it okay? Thanks in advance! God bless!
I think the leg scars should be okay (hint: they allow stockings to be worn.)
DeleteAs for 5 GCE O'Level Credit, if they state it as a requirement then you will need it.
Hi silver,
ReplyDeleteMay I know if I have a small scar over my left eyebrow would it be alright?
I am a male 24,BMi is 23.4,height is 189cm.i have a diploma.so do I qualify?:(
Refer to 2 replies above. ;)
DeleteHi! I saw that you said stockings can be worn. So can they be worn to the interview? Thanks in advance! And I saw you on the Subway ad on TV, so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they can be worn to the interview. =D
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteGood day to you ! I sort everything in point forms so it is clearer :)
1. I have a spoiled tooth in the upper row, which is quite obvious when I smile (you can see a silver color filling). How do they check out teeth in second stage? Should I implant a new one before I go for the interview?
2. Would it affect your roster planning if you refuse to bunk in?
3. Have you encountered any haunted accommodation before?
4. The income might be as low as SGD 2k?
Awaiting for your reply.
Thank you very much Silver ;)
Hey, I know I've replied u via email, but I'll do a short one here for the benefit of everyone else.
Delete1. It would be a good idea to implant a new one before u go for the interview. They don't really check out your teeth but if it's apparent when you smile then it would be a good idea to get it fixed.
2. Every single crew is entitled to one room, unless it's your SNY (training) flight, which you will bunk in with one of your same sex batch mates, so no worries about that affecting your roster.
3. Thank god, nope! I have met crew who have (& it's the same hotel I stayed in), but those things never come disturb me. =D
4. Hardly. Except during training. Once you start flying, income starts from 3k and above (up to a maximum of 7-8k as a non-ranking crew!) Very very very rarely do you get a low 2k. =)
Hope this helps answers some questions!
Hi silver.
ReplyDeleteDoes having tattoos affects too?
It really depends on where your tattoos are. If they're at places where it can't be seen it shouldn't affect your chances. I know of people in my swimming interview round who got the job even with their tattoos. =)
Deletehi silver . just wanna check with you, if i failed my interview, can i go for the next one or do i have to wait, lets' say. 3 months to apply again?
ReplyDeleteThey used to say that they won't accept you going for the interview if you've just gone for the last one. BUT! That being said, theres no harm trying. =)
Deletesilver u said about many stewards sleeping around but there are many gays in SQ right? In fact someone told me most SQ stewards are gay?
ReplyDeleteYes a lot of them are (& I love my gay friends!!! ^.^) so maybe u can do a mental math on how many girls have probably slept with the same straight guy.
Deletehaha about how many percent are gays?
DeleteHi, just wanted to ask.
ReplyDeleteI got in through the first round but failed at the skin check round. I had pimples on my nose which i had tried to conceal. I do have a 5mm mole on my right cheek and teeth which isnt straight. Moreover they are more stained than usual.
Are these reasons why i failed the skin check round? Do we need to be perfect? Moreover, i stammered and wasnt exactly smiling as per normal when she asked me a question cause i was too scared of my mole. Do advice thanks.
No dear, we don't have to be perfect. Give a wide smile, and be confident. Don't worry about your mole. Cindy Crawford has a mole, so does Japanese Supermodel Lena. ;) Teeth can always be fixed with invisalign these days so stand tall n go for that interview again, this time with a dazzling smile! (I'm starting to sound like an ad...lol~!!)
DeleteHi Silver!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for giving advices and insights about being SIA cabin crew.
I have some questions. First, what are the stages in the interview? Is the height and weight test first?
What if i'm underweight approx. 1-2 kilos and 157 cm which (sadly) below the requirements (158 cm). Will I get a chance to be interviewed?
Thank you so much and I hope you'll become much more succesfull in your career :)
Hello arrums,
DeleteThey look at your height when you are queuing up for the interview. 157 is a little tricky, but there's no stopping you from trying. Kym Ng got it on her 10th try, or smth like that. Perseverance sometimes pays off, especially if you're just cut out for it. =) It would help if you are short but have long arms, because the minimum height is really so that you can assist passengers with their bags onto the overhead compartments. It would be really embarrassing when you say "Hi Ma'am, let me help u with the bag" and then you realise you can't reach the compartments without climbing onto her seat.
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your post, I'm little scared to go for the next interview in September. I'm afraid I can't stand the bitchiness but this is my dream job for as long as I can remember. All my life I've never even thought of it. Because with my build I really don't think I can even think of wanting it but of recent years, I've lost a lot of weight (from 80kg to currently 55kg) and right now I really want to achieve this for myself :)
My BMI is about 21.8 and I have eczema on my hairline, side of my nose and corners of my lips area. I have medication for that and it doesn't itch often, only occasionally. Would I still be able to get in?
Thank you <3
Have faith in yourself. No one knows for sure, but I know if you want it enough, you will make it happen. If SIA doesn't want you, many other airlines would. =)
DeleteThank you!
DeleteIt really helps that you are still replying to comments. I appreciate it :)
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteHope that u can answer 2 of my questions:
1. If I have a visible but small birthmark on the inner side of my arms, does it affect my chance? Shld I use concealer to cover them as much as possible?
2. You fly with a different team to and from a destination right??
Thanks in advance!
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! u know, i had an ex-gf who did exactly that to me, haha. and i would nv know apart from that incident i found out, how many times more before that (although she claims none). so yeah. glad that is over, haha. =)
hello silver,cn i know if u hav obvious pit holes on your face, will u still be eligible for the position or will u be str8 out rejected when they see u?hav u seen any stewardess wif sunk in but not so sunk in scars on their face b4?that means still cn see a bit even wif makeup when the light shines but overall the skin tone is even color, jus tht when in certain lighting the shadows of the scars can be seen.
ReplyDeleteIf your personality shines, they will still take you in, I'm sure! All the best! =)
DeleteHi Silver!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently stil taking my diploma, and wil graduate in one more semester.
I'm wondering do I need t complete my diploma and get my very first, before I go for th interview?
Or can I just go for th upcoming one without th certs?
Btw, if I've got a slightly discoloured patch on my front teeth, wil I stil be selected? As in it's actually a slight decay, but refilled w white stuffings.
Besides that, tooth decay at th back of th teeths, okay w that?
Thankyou so much, Silver! Wil appreciate your thorough reply. Thankyou!!!! ;)
You can try. Details I'm not very sure, but bring your precious years' exam results just in case.
DeleteAs for your teeth fillings they shouldn't be a huge problem. =)
Dear Silver,
ReplyDeletei have a tattoo on my upper back, even if concealed i am quite sure it will show in kebaya as it's close to my neck.
So better not try ya?
I still need a few more laser treatments to clear it!
Btw why are there kebayas that shows more of the back of a stewardess and some less? They customize to thier preference?
Kebayas are tailored according to each stewardess and the company has set specific guidelines for the tailors to follow. Some stewardesses may have asked the tailors to make the neckline lower but there is limit as to how low it can go. If you can conceal your tattoo you should go try nevertheless. =)
DeleteThanks for the encouragement! Appreciate :)
DeleteHi Silver! What if I cant swim? Do I stil stand a chance?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry! As long as you're not afraid of going into the water you're okay. Lifejackets will be provided for the test.
DeleteHi Silver! I'm a fresh uni graduate and currently job-hunting. But I'm very confused.. :( On one hand, I would love to try out flying for a year or two because I feel that it's something I want to do while I'm still young? On the other hand, I have friends telling me that air stewardesses are only looked upon as 'high-class waitresses' and that I would have much difficulty getting a job back in the food industry. Would you be able to provide me with some advice based on your flying experience? :( & would it be advisable for me to start on a full-time job, and go for SIA interviews in the meantime? Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Silver! :) Can i know what will the girls wear during the swim test? :)
ReplyDeleteYour own swimsuit!
DeleteHi Silver! ^^
ReplyDeleteIs it a must to apply makeup for the interview?
Hi silver
ReplyDeleteI'm having my braces now. Will remover within the next 6 month. Is that ok for me to go for interview ? I scare my braces will give them an bad impression
Thanks
Maybe you would like to try after you've removed your braces?
DeleteI have a slightly big mole at the back of my neck, do you think that is a flaw that will get me booted out in the skin check round? How about tan lines? I'm thinking of wearing a work dress, that's why. Do you think it's alright?
ReplyDeleteWill having more than one ear piercing hole on each ear lobe affect the skin check round? Also, I have a big mole on the nape of my neck. Will the checkers take this into account?
ReplyDeleteI had more than one. ;) I think moles should be okay at the neck. Good luck!
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI would like to ask, if I become an air stewardess with Singapore Airlines, am I able to keep a beauty blog and a beauty youtube channel? Will I be restricted by the products I can use in my post & videos? Thanks a lot! Because my dream would be to be an air stewardess and do beauty blogging at the same time. Thank you :)
I think there's no harm sharing with people your beauty finds around the world! As long as you are not doing it as a side income thing (they are big on exclusive service to SQ), it should be okay. I wish I knew about lifestyle/beauty/travel blogging when I was flying!
DeleteHi Silver,
DeleteI'm sorry, but I couldn't find my hard copies of the certificates and only have backup photocopies of it.
Will this affect my chances?
Hi Silver, I chance upon your blog and realize that you're an ex SIA Air stewardess. Being an Air Stewardess have always been my dream job, however, after reading your blog post on the requirements for being an SIA Air Stewardess, i'm not sure if i'm in position to apply for this job. I've a very long scar under my left arm. That was caused when i was 2 years old. I had a surgery under my left arm as i had a lump under my arm, hence when i grew taller, my scar grew with me. Henceforth, i'm not very sure if i'm able to take up this job with the scar i have on my left arm. (Scar is from my armpit to my elbow joint.)
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance for your advice Silver. <3
I won't ask you to not try. Elbow joint to armpit means it's going to be hidden in the kebaya sleeve. Go for it! Sorry me reply came this late. If you have gotten in, congrats girl! If not, go try! N try again until you get it.
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteMay I know how long is the contract with SIA. Is the interview difficult?
Thanks a lot :)
GLSH
Hey GLSH,
DeleteContract is 18 months excluding the first 4 months of training, so total is about 21-22 months. Just be yourself at the interview. Don't give yourself stress. Chit-chat and engage with the interviewers, and you will be fine. =D
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog. I am waiting to be trained.
May I know what will happen to me if I have pimples? Will I be grounded? Cos I always see SIA girls with flawless skin.
Thanks in advance :)
I get pimples sometimes, and as long as they are not excessively bad, you can still fly as long as the pimples can be concealed. That being said, I knew someone who had to stop flying because the flying caused her skin to have major breakouts. But if it's a minor case, like the occasional zit, you won't be grounded. Unless it looks like it will squirt on people. Lol.
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI really feel like giving it a try for the December interview, I have a hospitaliyy background and I think the job would be perfect for me. I love working with people. But the problem is with my height, I'm only 155cm. Do you think I still stand a chance? Without being rejected immediately when taking my height.
:(
Hi C,
Delete155 might be a little tricky. There is no guarantee of rejection, though the chances are high. U might want to contemplate possibly other airlines with a lower height limit?
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting abt your experience. I'm currently contemplating a career switch..as what ppl say, life is short; we only live once. my concern is that after my stint as a stewardess, what are my career options? I have a degree in a professional field so is it possible to get like an internal transfer within SIA? Appreciate your advise :)
Hey! Internal transfers are highly possible as long as you fit their criteria! Your career options post-SIA-cabin-crew could be in PR and hospitality, or anything in the service line! As long as you deal with people. But if you are good in other areas, the sky's the limit and the world your oyster. ;)
DeleteI have a question. Wonder if you would be able to help to advise. I am currently looking for a job and also intend to go for SQ interview in dec. 1) In the event if I gotten through SQ interview and decide to decline the offer because i want to gain more experience in the new job. Would I still be able to go for SQ interview the second time? 2) I understand that the whole hiring process for SQ is 2-3 months. Am I still able to work full time during this period? 3) ANy idea how often is their recruitment drive?

ReplyDeleteHi dear,
ReplyDeleteI am planning to go for SIA interview soon but i need your advice on the attire. Should i go with a formal skirt or prefferably a long black formal pants? And on the nails should i polished it red or should i just leave it without any polished? I hope you respond to me as i really wish to get this job with SIA. I will be flying from sarawak to attend the SIA interview and i really hope i nailed it! Hope to hear from you soon, silver!
Kind regards,
Ira
Hi Ira,
DeleteI hope by the time you see this reply you would have nailed it! But I'm gonna reply for those of you who are curious. Go for what flatters your body, but not too overboard that it shows off too much! Something presentable and classy should do the trick. =)
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI had read your post on being an Air Stewardess. It really provide me with a great insight on the career as air stewardess.
I am actually a graduate from local Uni. I have been thinking of joining this career however I am not very sure if I should go for the interview this dec. or I should pursue other career related to the field of my study. Can u please advise me as I really do not know if I should join this industry.
Hoping to get ur reply soon.
Thanks
Hi silver,
ReplyDeleteI will be graduating from a local uni soon. I am considering if I should join this career. However, I am in a dilemma if I should join SIA or look for other career choices related to my field of study.
I hope u can advice me on what to do because I am really puzzled over this. I am not sure if I should go for the coming interview.
Thanks
Regards
Katherine
Hey Katherine, sorry for the late reply! If you have no idea what to do next, you can consider flying as an alternative to just settling for any job. It helps you to gain insight into hospitality, and you get to see many things that a ground job may not be able to show you. Look for things related to your field of study when you are travelling to get inspiration on what you can do.
DeleteAlso, talk to passengers when you can. You'll be surprised at who you might meet, and how they might be able to help you in your field. Good luck!
Thank Silver for your advice. Can I ask if they do conduct teeth checks during the interview? Becuase my teeth is really not straight and i am afraid this might result in me being rejected by them during the interview.
Deletehi, your blog is so informative. thank you. i am wondering, someone told me that, if the candidate has a diploma in nursing certificate and has a 1 year working experience as a nurse, does this bring credit to the candidate?
ReplyDeleteI would suppose so! After all, caring for passengers is part of the duties! =)
Deletehi dear, just to ask. I've wanted to become an air stewardess after i graduate from my studies. However my height didnt meet the requirement and it's way below it, im 155cm and i've stopped growing alrd. will i stand a chance?
ReplyDeleteHey Zoe sorry for replying so late. 155 is pretty tricky but I wouldn't tell u to give up. If you don't make it for SIA there are always other airlines to try for. =)
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience being a cabin crew. Just one question, I only have diploma in makeup artistry, can they accept it? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you!
Regards,
Angel
Any Diploma is fine! (I would guess?) Although a sound proficiency in the English Language would help. Look at the requirements as stated when they are hiring!
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteA few questions to ask you & I hope you can reply:)
For the interview,
- Is it a must to put on make up? (I'm not good at make up)
- Better to wear flats or heels?
- Can wear dress? Or better to wear long sleeve & skirt / pants?
Hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks
Jasslyn
Hey Jasslyn,
DeleteIt'd be good to have a little bit of makeup on but it's no biggie if you go barefaced. They will teach you how to do makeup during training anyway. They are more interested in how you carry yourself more than how pretty you are so don't fret over this!
Flats or heels doesn't matter too, though you might feel more confident in heels. Bottomline - wear what makes you comfortable! You don't want to trip and fall!
Dress, pants, doesn't matter too. As long as you look presentable, you will be fine. Think in terms of any job interview. =)
Hope this answers your questions!
Love,
Silver
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for sharing your experiences being a cabin crew.
May I know is it permissible to wear cosmetic contact lenses during interview?
Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you so much! =)
Hi Ying Xin,
DeleteI think the natural coloured ones are fine. Just don't go for those extra big eye lens or blue/green/yellow/whatever-non-Asian-eye-coloured lens. =)
Thanks a lot for your reply! :)
DeleteDear Silver,
ReplyDeleteVery long time no see. I'm one of ur Pri sch junior. We used to stay in the same block. Anyway tts not important. Thanks for sharing the unglamorous side of this glamorous job. Many ladies thought it was a nice job but little did they know the meaning of being "humble". I went to try for interview after seeing your initial posting on this interview and With those advices u gave, i got into the sis company instead. May I check with u, from ur past experience, is married women with children but is only 26 years old hinder the chances to get into SQ? Cos many I know is ex SQ crew who return aft giving birth. I never heard non ex SQ crew who got in when her status is married with children. Thank u for ur advice Silver :)
Hey Junior,
DeleteWith regards to your question, I really have no answer. I have not heard of a married woman with children get into SQ (like you, I've only heard of returning crew post child-birth).
Hi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI am taking As next year and I know I can jolly well get into my ideal Uni in other Asia country with a scholarship. I'm just seeking another opinion if it's alright to be an air stewardess and forgo my university. I was thinking if I fail the interviews, then I'll go ahead and study for Uni, but the timings for interviews and scholarships and getting back of results and Uni orientation are probably not in my favour.
Hi Wing Yan,
DeleteIf you really decide to fly, promise yourself that you will go back to uni. I can't tell you what is best for you. Where does your passion lie? I've mentioned so many times in my tweets and posts that a Degree is not a guarantee that you will find a good job and secure a good life, passion for whatever you do is. If a degree in a subject of study in which you are passionate about is in the books, then please please please go back and take your degree when you are done with flying (give yourself 2 years). The job does make you more worldly and going back to study after flying will give you a new perspective on what you want to make of your degree later on.
Personally, I would fly and go back to school later on. But ultimately, the choice is yours. Always remember one thing, never ever lose yourself because of other people's influence. Go with your gut feeling, and what speaks out to you. Intuition hardly ever goes wrong.
Good luck!
Hi Silver, i went for the interview earlier this month and didnt get in. I'm 19 by the way, is it because of the age?
ReplyDeleteAge is just a number, but if being 19 means there is a lot for you to brush up on with regards to how you carry yourself, then maybe it was the age. Don't despair. Many people go for multiple tries before they finally get into the company. Build up your confidence (but don't get too arrogant), prepare a great smile, then win them over next time round!
DeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the really comprehensive job review & experience about being an air stewardess.
I’m thinking joining as an air steward but I have no idea what is the suitable dress-code for the interview.
Do I have to wear a suit for the interview?
Or just a Formal Shirt, Tie, Pants, Working Shoes enough for the interview?
(I’m afraid to be over dressed for the interview)
Could you please advise me on the attire appropriate for the interview?
Thanks,
Richard
hi Richard,
DeleteA shirt, tie, pants, and working shoes are good. =) Office wear, basically.
Good luck!
Hi silver,
ReplyDeleteBeen reading up on SIA interviews but there is little mention on chicken pox scars. By this I mean the type that are 'dented in' and not those that can be concealed so easily with concealers.
Ive a visible one on my face but I believe I have good skin, no pimples etc. What do you think are my chances of passing the skin check? Do you know of any stewardess with such chicken pox scars?
Thank Silver for your advice. Can I ask if they do conduct teeth checks during the interview? Becuase my teeth is really not straight and i am afraid this might result in me being rejected by them during the interview.
ReplyDeleteDelete
i read post and also most of the comments. but since appearance is one of the important criteria, i am really worried about it. i am a girl that is 1.68m with bmi 20. however, i have only one crooked teeth at the upper line, a scare one my left eyebrow which separate it into 2 parts and i have mild acne too. will these affect the idea of taking me in as a cabin crew? not just for sia but also for other airlines in asia?
ReplyDeletethanks for your guide
If you are worried about your teeth, go have it fixed with braces or invisalign before you go for the interview. But if the teeth is only slightly crooked, don't worry too much about it. As for the scar at the eyebrow, fill it up with eyebrow pencil. If u have an acne problem but have the personality they want, they will teach you how to take care of your skin once you start training. Have more confidence girl! With confidence, a girl can conquer the world with any job she desires. ;)

ReplyDeleteHello, Silver! I'm very glad to have stumbled on your post. I've had a fantasized ideal of what air-stewarding was like until I read you blog. Thanks for sharing and replying to most of the comments! :)
ReplyDeleteI have several questions :-
1) I'm Angelina, a 19 year old student from Malaysia. I did not sit for the O-levels or SPM (Malaysia's equivalent to the O-Level, but sat for the SAT instead (America's O-level), and it is written that those are required. Will they not even consider me if I do not have those?
2) I, unfortunately, do not have a 21 and below BMI and am a 23 instead, but I'm tall (173cm) and look okay (I think)- should I go and try out despite not being the required BMI?
3) If I do go for the interview and fail to get the part, I will go do my degree in sociology and finish at 23 years old. Is age 23-24 too late for it?
Hope you'll reply soon! :)
Thank you.
Sincerely,
AngelKein

Thanks for writing this post! It's ridiculously hard to find information about Air Crew Salary and SIA Interview online.
ReplyDeletehi silver. i came across your blog and i suddenly feel scared. i am going for my final interview next month. could you give me some tips on how to do well for the interview? and if i have acne at the back of my body, would they reject me? :/
ReplyDeleteHi Silver, I love your Post very much!
ReplyDeleteI have a quuestion for you. My name is Zong Huan. 28 years old Guy. I just went for SIA interview today, passed the first round, was 1 of the 3 people who got into the next round but failed during the skin check round. The one who checked my skin was a lady and she said my face looks like I have some acnes or pimples. And later on she asked me am I still working and what do I do for work right now. So I just said no I have left my work and now applying for SIA hopeing to get selected. I told her that my pimple is just temporary it will disappeared in one week time, but I think she did not give me a chance as I did nto get into the next round. Probably I should get a concealer to cover up my acnes or pimples when I come for interview again. Hi Silver, do you have any advice for me?
hey silver, I am actually nervous after readin ur post :p
ReplyDeleteThe only thing i was confident about was my confidence, nd i see it diminishing right now :p
i have tiny moles on my neck, and scars on my left lower-arm wch are partially visible (my cats scratched in an attempt to wake me up, but it luks like i attempted suicide :/), so im not quite sure will i pass the skin-test round because of it. I'm a leather designer, thus have a fabulous personality attached to it, so something im sure of ;)
im 172cm, bmi is 18 smthing.. and yes i have a tattoo on my left upper chest, would dat be a problem too...??
hope to hear from u soon
gracias! xD

hi.may i ask you what you wore for the first interview? skirt or pants?
ReplyDeleteHey Silver!
ReplyDeleteJust want to thank you for the effort you took to put together this informative post. Really helped in getting through my interview and mostly helped me decide if i wanted to embark on this. All the best for your career in entertainment :)
Hi Silver, I just want to ask if you know of any stewardesses that are of borderline heights? I am around 157-158 and am pretty skeptical about it. Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteThere are! If you are borderline just try. You never know. =)
DeleteHi dear Silver, im a uni grad with all other requirements met. My only concern is im sligthly short tongue (like how children r when young), will it affect me? I've known exCC who speak weird english (sligthly ahlian n act), so will I be ok? Thanks for still replying until now!
ReplyDeleteHi silver, may i know the age limit for guys?
ReplyDeleteHi silver,
ReplyDeleteI would like to ask if I actually got the job, would hostels be provided when I go for training? Or do I have to rent my own place? If I need to rent my own place near the college, may I know where is the best place to live at when I am there? And may I noe where exactly is the college situated at?
Thank you
Nikki
Hi Marissa, hostels are not provided during training so you would have to rent your own place. For cabin crew the best place to stay at would be at the east as it is nearest to the airport. Most foreign cabin crew lives there, especially during their first year or 2 here. I'm a real estate agent so you can email me at zihuisilver@gmail.com if you need my help renting a place. =)
Deletehey, i am having big visible scars on my hands.. so should i give it a try for an air hostess job??
ReplyDeleteHi Silver Ang,
ReplyDeleteThank you for you informative blogpost and you care to answer qns even after so long.
Im a 23 years old guy, 1.69m tall and weight about 78kg.
You did not share much regarding the life of a MALE Cabin crew, other than it most are gay and they are roughly 25-28 :P
Hence, i will like to ask you a few questions:
1) Whats the Percentage of male air steward across the entire cabin crew population?
2) Whats the main job scope of male cabin crew, as i dont see alot of them walking down the aisle and serving passengers, do all the male crews do the preparation at the back?
3) Im 1.69m, even though im 4cm above the minimum required height of 1.65m, does this make me short when the ladies wear heel? And whats the average height of all the male cabin crew in SIA?
4)im not sure of the salary scheme, but i do got a engineering degree from NUS thus i will like smth more competitive :) Will the average salary be around 4.5k since SIA planned our schedule and we dont have a choice to keep doing long haul flight ?
5)Whats the average days spend outstation before flying off again ?
6) how do you battle with jet lag? :)
7)If we are outstation for a few days, is it uncomfortable to weird to travel and tour the town together with other cabin crew whom we do not know at all?
8)During outstation, if i will to stay in my hotel room alone or prefer to travel alone, issit alright?
9) Lastly, how many months of bonuses will we get? and the bonus is usually the Basic x Months only? no other components added in?
Thanks alot !!!!
Sorry for the long questions, but im just very excited to get into this line and see the world :)
Justin
Dear Silver Ang ,
ReplyDeleteI have tattoos on my fingers and its visible. Do you think I should brother going for the interview? My guest, colleagues and manager told me that I should go for SIA because I'm the type of person that they are looking for.
Since I have countless tattoo, do you think I should proceed? I'm afraid I'm gonna fool myself. Can I conseal it with make up or products?
Looking forward for your suggestion. Thank you.
Regards,
Ram Raman
Hi silver!
ReplyDeleteI heard that during training, we have to leap down into the water from a 10 meters high mock plane and swim a distance back to the "shore"? Is that true?
I don't like the feeling of free-falling, but do we get that a lot on flight?
Thanks alot!

Hi Silver, what if we can't fit into the kebaya can we still pass? I'm sure the kebaya comes with sizes right ? Bcos my hip bone is quite big.....
ReplyDeleteHi Cynthia, sorry reply came late. I hope you're already flying! =D For the benefit of other readers, the kebaya is made to measure, so there will be all kinds of sizes for you during the kebaya round. So you don't have to worry if you can't fit. At the end of the day when you get in, your kebaya will be tailor-made for you. ;)
DeleteHi' i hope you will answer to my question. Will SIA accept 4 o level credit? With relevant working experience. I'm 20 this year and i'm really thinking of going for the walk in. Please advice. Thank you! (:
ReplyDeleteHi Silver,
ReplyDeleteI came across your post and am very thankful for such a detailed guideline!
I went for the final interview today and I did not pass the kebaya round. However, the person told me that I will be kept in view and I do not need to go through the previous few rounds anymore except for the kebaya again.
I'm short-haired. May I know if there is any issue with that? Is there any female cabin crew with short hair. My hairstyle was said to be a little inappropriate. (Note: I am eliminated rather because of my tummy and hunchback - if you have any effective tips for tummy slimming, l will appreciate it if you wouldn't mind revealing! :))
Hope to hear from your advices soon!
Hi Silver! i have only 4 o level credits but i have a private diploma and a Japanese Language cert plus working experiences. Will i be able to go for the interview? Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteHey Silver, i read across some website that the contract is 5years, but bond is 18months, so when i have completed my 18months of service and resign, am i liable to anything like...need to pay SIA?
ReplyDeleteSorry reply came so many months later! No you are not liable to pay anything after your 18 months of flying (not inclusive of 3.5 months training).
DeleteHi Silver! I would like to thank you for your detailed post on the life of a SIA air stewardess. Thank you for it has been really insightful. I've plans to try the upcoming interview on the 15th of March 2014. I understand that your post was published in 2010 :( But I'm still hoping to be able to receive your replies on the questions I have in mind. I'm hoping you could provide me with more details on how the skin checks will be conducted at the neck? I've back acne & scars, with occasional breakouts & scars on my face. Do you think I would be penalized & eliminated during the skin check round? I really would like to secure the job. I really hope to hear from you too. Thank you once again, Silver!
ReplyDeleteWarmest regards,
Fiona

Hey Fiona!
DeleteDon't worry about your acne scars. Just conceal! Back acne shouldn't be too much of a problem I think, as the uniform isn't really low-back. They'll just look at your wrist and your face, so as long as you don't tattoos on your wrist or a huge birthmark on your face, you should be safe for the skin check.Good luck for tmr!
Hi silver! May I know whether I shld still giv the interview a try coz of my overbite :/ I have three protruding upper teeth and a little crocked bottom teeth. I fit the rest of the requirements except for my teeth which I'm really self conscious abt. Pls giv me an advice? Thanks!
